*I only watched last nights game, so I can only give my opinion about those.*
Iberia vs Stoutland
This game started out as most people think a 1 vs 8 seed should start out. On about a 14-0 run for the 1 seed. Iberia was just too much for the Tigers, as the Rangers did pretty much whatever they wanted in the first half. I can't remember the first half score exactly, but it was somewhere around 48-8. The second half started ugly for both teams. Stoutland got some easy layups and Iberia struggled to score like they did in the first half. All in all we saw a normal 1 vs 8 seed game with the turbo clock in the 4th quarter.
*Notes: Darrian Dickey looked like he has worked on him jump shot a lot this summer. He hit mid range shots and even stepped out and hit a 3. He also showed his athletic ability and threw one down. The Halley kid looked like he had grown several inches and looked like he is going a tool the Rangers can use. Everyone else looked about what I expected. The Frisbee kid down low is going to be a force all year.
Licking vs Plato
This game, unlike the one above, was not like the typical 2 vs 7 seed. Licking jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, to which Plato called a quick timeout. Plato then scrapped their way back into the game and made it close the whole game. Lickings game plan was to feed their best player, Lane Duncan, the ball in the high post and let him do work. He did just that and scored most of their points. Plato took another route and allowed most of their kids a chance to score. The game got as close as 4 in the fourth quarter then Plato had to foul and Licking made them pay at the foul line with a final margin of around 8
*Notes: Either Plato isn't a typical 7 seed, or Licking had a rough night because this was way to close of a game, not that its a bad thing, of a 2 vs 7 seed. Im guess is that Plato isn't a normal 7 seed. They looked very well coached and extremely patient on the offensive end. In the end they didn't have enough tools to stop the Duncan kid from scoring. Licking on the other hand looked a little lethargic on the defensive end. And on the offensive end, the game plan of getting Duncan the ball seemed to work, but I am concerned with what a bigger team can do with regards to guarding the high post.
Dixon vs Crocker.
Just looking at the teams for what they were "this" year, I thought this would be the closest game of the night (this was before I watched the Licking/Plato game). Dixon lost a bunch of talent while Crocker brought back most of their weapons. From the tip, the ball was moving fast to both ends. But by the fourth or fifth minute of the first period, Crocker looked to be in control of the pace. Dixon was bringing the ball up fast, but then slowing it down in the half court. Throughout the whole game is was close. The biggest margin was the final score which was around 74-65 with Crocker coming out on top.
Notes: Crocker shot 46 free throws. Yep 46. They made 35. Dixon on the other hand shot 9...I cannot remember how many they made off the top of my head. Dixon is going to rely on Yoakum boy a lot this year as he was leading scorer and easily seen as their leader. Crocker is going to be tough to handle this year by some teams. They are patient on offense and in your face in defense
Overall notes: From what I can tell is that there is a clear top and bottom of the Frisco, but that middle is up for grabs by anyone.
Sorry for not having any definite scores or points, I am not one of those people. I hop everyone travels safe in the next few days and lets hope it stays out of the way of this classic tournament.
