Good afternoon everybody here is my wrap up from the MSHSAA Class 2 District 9 Semifinals from Eagles Field on the Campus of Plato high school.
(1) Vienna vs (4) Belle
It was a battle for Maries County as these two bitter rivals faced off and it would be the Belle Tigers avenging an Earlier season GVC loss with a 7-5 win over Vienna. Belle didn't waste anytime as they would jump all over Vienna starter Trent Miller. Belle's first three batters would reach and all score. Kolton Clark would single and steal second. A double by the center fielder Hunter Loughridge would plate Clark then a single by Mason Price would get Loughridge home. A single off the bat of Logan Miller would get Price home and it would be Belle up 3-0. In the bottom of the first Vienna would do some damage of their own as Justin Bull would single then Dominic Struemph would smack a double to left field. The ball would be misplayed by the left fielder allowing Bull to come home and score. Ethan Farrow would hit a double to center field to plate Struemph making it 3-2 Belle after one inning. Belle would add to their lead in the top of the third when both Sawyer Abel and Logan Miller led off with back to back singles. A single in the 4-3 hole by Dalton Price would bring in Abel and Sawyer making this a 5-2 and chasing starter Trent Miller from the game in favor of Justin Bull in the process. Vienna would get one back in the bottom of the third when Kody Kleffner would reach on an error at second base. He would steal second and on the play an errand throw by the catcher would allow him to advance to third. A single by Struemph would get Kleffner home making it 5-3 after three.
Vienna would itch a little bit closer in the bottom of the fourth when they would get another run. Eagle second basemen Chandler Harker would hit a double to right field then advance to third on a dropped third strike to first. A ground out by the Designated hitter Trae Helton to third would get Harker home making it 5-4 after four. The Tigers would get what would prove to be the difference maker in the top the fifth. Tom Brewer would lead off with a walk the Clark would also reach on via balls to put two on. Belle slugger Mason Price would again come through for hit Tigers smacking a single to right field to bring home both Brewer and Clark making it 7-4. Vienna would get their final run in their half of the fifth. Kleffner would single and a little later a Conner Backues sac fly to deep left would bring him home to give us the final of 7-5.

(2) Iberia vs (3) Plato
It was a pitchers dual in the night cap as Plato faced off with Iberia and when it was all over it would be the Rangers winning with a 2-0 blanking of the host squad. Iberia would get their first run in the bottom of the first when Darrien Dickey singled up the middle then stole second base. A ground out to the first would move Dickey to third then he would score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Andrew Cross making it 1-0 after one. The Eagles would threaten in the top of the fifth when they would get runners at third and second with only one out. Iberia ace Issac Minnick was able to catch a line drive and throw over to third for the 1-5 double play to get out of the jam. The Rangers would add an insurance run in their half of the fifth when Dickey would reach on a base on balls. A botched pick off move and stolen base would move him into scoring position. A ground out by Dustin Bloodgood would plate Dickey making it 2-0 Rangers.
"Jake (Murrell) pitched more then well enough to win tonight but the offense just wasn't able to break through to get that big hit when we needed to. He only surrendered two hits and still took the loss which is just tough. Minnick is a heck of a pitcher and made the big pitches when he had to so give him all the credit in the world. Its not the way we wanted to end our season but I'll say I'm going to miss my seniors but the future for us looks bright with a lot of younger players coming back." Plato Coach Mark Vaughn
