Good morning everybody here is my wrap up from a Frisco League Double-Dip over in Wolves County as the Richland Bears and Stoutland Tigers both came to Mini Finway Park to face Newburg.
Early Game-Richland vs Newburg
It was an early start for game one between the Bears and Wolves, the boys from Richland would emerge victorious 7-3 picking up their first Frisco League win of the season. Richland would strike first in the top of the first when Freshman Zayne McNeil would smack a double over to left field then a single in the 5-6 hole by Dane Peterson would score McNeil making it 1-0. Newburg would answer back in their half of the first when Alan Yelton singled to start off the game then stole second. Yelton would take third and the catcher would commit a throwing error throwing down to third allowing Alan to come home making it 1-1 after one. The Bears added another in the second when Dawson Andrews had an infield single then moved to second on a botched pick off move to first. He would score on an odd play when it appeared that the batter struck out on a check swing third strike that was wild. So Andrews move to third on the wild pitch then he would get a "stolen base" as he took home when the Newburg catcher threw to first thinking it was the third strike. The ump ruled no swing but Richland would keep the run on the board making it 2-1 after two.
Richland would use some thunder in the bats in the top of the third to plate three. Chase Sullivan would line a single to right field that was misplayed by the fielder allowing Sullivan to get to third. McNeil would walk then Steven Domingue was hit by a pitch to load the bases up. Peterson would stroke a single between the first and second basemen into shallow right that would bring home both Sullivan and McNeil as well as moving Domingue to third. Taylor Andrews would ground into a 4-3 double play but collect the RBI as Domingue came home to score making it 5-1. Newburg got on back in the bottom of the third when Tevis Elbert would walk then steal both second and third base. Yelton would ground out to short but that would bring home Elbert making it 5-2 after three. The Bears would get more in the top of the fifth. NcNeil would be hit by a pitch, Domingue would single then Peterson would walk to load the bases. T. Andrews would ground into a fielder's choice to erase Peterson but bring home McNeil. D. Andrews would ground into a fielder's choice that put out Taylor but would allow Domingue to score making it 7-2. Newburg got one back in their half of the fifth when Jamie Stevenson would walk then steal second. He would steal third and on the throw from the catcher trying to catch him stealing the catcher airmailed the ball into left allowing Stevenson to come home making it 7-3 after five. Richland would get one more in the top of the seventh when Domingue singled stole second and scored on a Taylor Andrews single to give us the final of 8-3
"We did a great job of fielding the baseball today and that is something that we have struggled with this season. We were able to get on and make things happen when we needed to. this is a great step in the right direction for us and hopefully we can build from here to become more consistent in our at bats. The Tigers would get some more in the fifth when Boatwright would reach on an error at first then Brown would double to put two one in scoring position. A ground out by Jesse Hubbs would bring in Boatwright then a wild throw by the first basemen to the catcher would also allow Brown to come in on the same play making it 5-1 after five. The Tigers final run would come in the top of the seventh when Boatwright would single then move to third on a pair of consecutive wild pitches. Then a single by freshman first basemen Jesse Hubbs brought in Boatwright. Newburg would tack on another in the bottom of the seventh when Tevis Elbert would walk then take second on a wild pitch.
