Good morning everybody here is my wrap up from the Frisco League battle for Highway Seven at Malcolm Brown Ball Park at Richland's Shady Dell Park.
The fans that turned up to watch the Laquey Hornets battle the Richland Bears were treated to a major league game and when the dust settled on this one it would be Laquey winning it 9-5 after nine innings. Laquey didn't waste any time in this one as Mike Norris would reach on an error in left field. The next batter Bo Brothers would double down the left field line bring Norris around making int 1-0 Hornets. On one of the oddest plays I have seen Laquey would get two more in the third....Norris would reach on a walk then steal second. A single by Brothers and another steal would put two on in scoring position. Joe Benak would strike out on the next at bat but the third strike was wild. Norris raced home on the wild pitch then on the same play Benak would delay taking off for first. The throw would be in time to get Benak but it allowed Brothers to come home as well. So on the Wild Pitch strike out they got two runs...definitely an odd play but it was Laquey 3-0 after three.
The Bears would rattle the bats in the fourth as they would get two back. Steven Domingue would reach on an infield single then steal both second and third. A walk would but Lane Karr on then a wild pitch plated Domingue and a double to deep center field would bring home Karr making it 3-2 Lauey after three innings. Richland continued their momentum in the fifth when Chase Sullivan would walk and take second on a steal a fielder's choice off the bat of Zayne McNeil would erase Sullivan but all McNeil to reach. A ball misplayed by the second basemen would allow Domingue to reach and move McNeil around third to score. Seth Baker would hammer a single past the short stop bringing Domingue home giving the host Bears a 4-3 edge after five. Laquey would post a rally in the top of the seventh starting with a single by Norris and a steal of second put him into scoring position. A delayed steal by Norris would put him on third when Benak hit a ground out to the short stop to bring in Norris making this a 4-4 game that needed bonus baseball.
The Hornets would use some timely hitting and a few Richland errors to put up a five spot in the ninth inning. Nathan Wheelock singled then stole second and third then Frank Norris would lay down the perfect bunt for a single to bring home Wheelock and a line shot double to center by Benak would bring home F. Norris and a single by Brannon Rivard brought home Benak. An error at short would bring in Rivard an also allow Austin Mann to reach. Another error at short on a ball hit by Garrett Reid brought home Mann making this a 9-4 game. Richland would manage to get one run in their half of the frame. NcNeil reached on an error at second then came home on a wild pitch. The pitching was on display as Brannon Rivard for Laquey would punch out 16 Richland Bears with his nasty curve ball and side are slurve combination over eight innings.
