Good morning everybody here is my wrap up from the 12th Annual Frisco League Baseball Tournament from Hooper field on the campus of Iberia High School.
Play-in Game-(8) Newburg vs (9) Crocker
In the opener of the day the Newburg Wolves were able to win a marathon game 14-9 in a game that saw a combined 23 runs, 17 errors, 16 hits and took a shade under three hours to complete. Crocker would jump out early in this one plating two in the first and one more in their half of the second. Newburg rattled the bats in the bottom of the second putting up a four spot highlighted by a BJ Wheeler three run triple to take a 4-3 lead after two innings. In the top of the third Crocker tied the game up with a solo tally. Newburg wouldn't take long to rally as they would back the advantage as they would put up a two spot making it 6-4 after three. The Wolves would put up their second four spot of the game and it was a 10-4 game after four. Crocker rallied back in the top of the fifth as they took advantage of three Newburg fielding errors making it a 10-9 Wolves edge after five. The eighth seeded Wolves put this one out of reach plating yet another four spot in the sixth to give us the final 14-9.

(4) Iberia vs (5) Stoutland
The second contest of the afternoon would see Stoutland behind a dominating pitching performance from Byron Begley as they would upset the host Ranges 2-1. Iberia would get their run in the bottom of the first when Senior third basemen doubled to center then an error on a ball hit to third base by Tyler Slawson allowed Minnick to come home to make it 1-0 Iberia. That was all the scoring Iberia would get as Begley kept the Rangers hitters off balance with his curve ball and off speed stuff. The fifth inning would be the charm for Stoutland as their first three batters Layne Wood, Tony Sein and Bryon Begley all reached on walks to load the bases. Senior center fielder Mike Brown would come through big for his Tigers as he hit a single up the middle to bring home both Wood and Sein making it 2-1 Stoutland. In the sixth Iberia would get their chance at a rally with two on with two outs but Begley would end the threat with a strikeout. Iberia went down in order in the seventh inning and Stoutland advances to the semifinals. The Tiger's defense in this was outstanding as they only committed two errors. This is the first time in the twelve year history of the Frisco League Baseball Tournament that Iberia was beaten in the first round and sent to the consolation side of the bracket.

"I was extremely impressed with how well we hit the ball today hammering out twelve hits. I was surprised with our defense we came out and played error free baseball tonight. I really wasn't sure what to expect with it being the first game but also because of the weather keeping us from practicing outside until only a couple days ago. Great way to start the season.
