Good evening everybody here is my wrap up from the first night of the Richland JV Tournament.
(4) Crocker vs (5) Stoutland
The Crocker Junior Varsity Lions used a strong third quarter surge to down the Stoutland Tigers 33-26 to advance to the semifinals. The first quarter was a slow one as both teams were shaking off a little bit of rust and it was Tigers on top 6-4 after one. In the second the pace would quicken slightly with Crocker outscoring Stoutland 9-7 and it was tied up 13-13 at the half. The key to the Lions victory would come in the third as their defense would hold the Tigers to just a lone solitary point in the frame while they put up thirteen points to lead it 26-14 after three. The final seven of this one would see Crocker hit some free throws to help them seal the win.

(1) Conway vs (8) Newburg
The top seeded Conway Bears used some tough pressure defense to dispatch the Newburg Wolves 58-19 to punch their ticket to a semifinal match up with Crocker. Conway's full court pressure in the first quarter would prove too much as they would run out to a commanding 22-5 lead behind Austin Chastain's eight points in the period. The second would see the pace slow down as both teams would run some offense and it would be Conway outscoring the Wolves 6-2 in the frame to make it 28-7 at the break. In the third Conway would outscore the Wolves 14-10 to make it 42-17 heading into the final frame. In the final seven Conway would pound Newburg 16-2 in a turbo clock shortened frame.

(3) Eldon vs (6) Dixon
The night cap would prove to be the most exciting of the contests as it would take overtime to settle things and when it was all said Eldon would escape with a 56-50 win over the Dixon Bulldogs. The first period would see Dixon take advantage of some Eldon foul troubles and take a 10-5 lead at the end of one. The second would be a closely contested game as both teams were able to get up and down. Eldon would outscore Dixon 15-14 in the frame but it was the red and white leading at the half 24-20. The third would see both teams using some good three point shooting but the Mustangs would tie this up at 36-36 by outscoring Dixon 16-12. The fourth quarter had some hints that this one might be going to overtime as neither team could build more then a two point lead as time expired a floater in the lane by Dixon's Andrew Meier would rim out and we would get bonus basketball. In the bonus period Eldon would score first on a Jacob Sided basket in the paint then get a run out by Jacob Wood to make it a four point lead. Eldon would hold on to the ball from there forcing the Bulldogs to foul. Mustang free throws would fall putting this one to rest. There were 75 combined turnovers in this one as Eldon coughed it up 41 times and Dixon would commit 34 of their own.
