Good evening everybody my apologies I would have had these up here earlier but I had more pressing matters to take care of after wards. Never the less here is my wrap up from the Richland Holiday Tournament Championship Day.
7th Place Game
(7) Laquey vs (8) Bourbon
The Bourbon Warhawks were able to rally late and topple the Laquey Hornets 61-59 to salvage a win out of the tournament. The Hornets would come out firing as in this one and would run out to a 14-11 lead after one quarter. The second would see Bourbon return the favor as they would outscore the Hornet 18-11 in the frame to take a 29-25 edge at the break. The Hornets would get hot as they would outscore Bourbon 18-7 to take a 43-36 edge after three. Laquey would push their lead up to ten with five minutes left in the game but Bourbon would go on a quick run and erase the lead with 3:20 left in the game. Both teams would lay claim to the lead but Bourbon would hold a two point lead late. Laquey would be forced to foul and the Warhawks would hit some free throws to survive with the win. Free throw shooting was a factor in this one as Bourbon went 14 of 17 for a 83 percent clip while Laquey went 6 of 16 for a 38 percent mark. Laquey's three shooting was outstanding as they canned eleven in the game.

Consolation Game
(3) Newburg vs (4) Crocker
The Newburg Wolves were able to hold off late Crocker rally to claim the Consolation hardware from the 12th Annual Richland Holiday Tournament. This one was a grind early on as both teams would play some tough defense and it would be Newburg on top of this one 13-7 after one. The Wolves would find their offensive rhythm as they would pace Crocker 15-9 to open up a 28-16 advantage at the intermission. In the third period both teams would grind out nine points in the frame and it was a 37-25 game heading into the final period. The fourth would be interesting as Newburg would go to a delay game but the Lions would have different ideas. Crocker would force some Newburg turnovers and were also aided by a couple missed free throws and it ended up being a one point game with a little bit more then a minute left. Newburg would hit a couple free throws to make it a three point game late. Crocker would get two looks at a potential game tying three but both shots were off and Newburg would win it. All said Crocker would outscore Newburg 14-5 in the frame but it was Newburg's defense that won this one. They were able to hold the Lions to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters and that was the key to the win.

Third Place Game
(6) Richland vs (5) Belle
The Belle Tigers were able to get a measure of revenge for last year's District Championship game as they were able to topple the host Richland Bears 70-61. The Richland Bears would ride the back of junior Jake Horton as he would score 12 of their 21 points and it was the hosts on top 21-18 after one. In the second Belle would have regroup and take advantage of some Richland foul troubles to outscore the Bears 16-10 to open a 34-31 lead at the break. The third would belong to Belle in this one as they would continue to execute offensively to outscore Richland by ten in the frame (21-11) to open up a 55-42 lead. The fourth quarter would see Richland try to scramble defensively to get back into the game and would get it cut to a five point lead but they would be forced to foul and Belle would hit their throws to protect the lead. Richland would outscore Belle 19-15 in the fourth but it wasn't enough.

12th Annual Richland Holiday Tournament
(1) Iberia vs (2) Eugene
The Iberia Rangers were able to avenge an earlier loss this season to Eugene 69-64 to claim the biggest piece of hardware at the 2012-13 Richland Holiday Tournament. The atmosphere of this one had a big game feel to much like a District Championship as both teams brought large followings to Northwest Pulaski County for this one. The first quarter would see both teams come out firing but Eugene would see their standout Junior guard saddled with their fouls in the first period causing him to miss the rest of the half. Iberia would pound their way to a 22-18 lead after one quarter of play. The second would see more excellent offense as both teams would put the points up but it would be Iberia outscoring Eugene 17-15 in the frame to carve out the 39-33. In the third period Iberia would assert themselves defensively holding the Eagles to ten points in the eight minutes while putting up seventeen to take 56-43 lead after three. Iberia would score the first three points of the fourth to open a sixteen point lead before a Craig Engelbrecht time out. The Eagles would bring the full court pressure in a hurry forcing some Iberia turnovers and help them go on an 8-0 run before Iberia could get a time out to refocus. The Rangers would go to a delay offense but Eugene would continue their torrent comeback bid and the lead would dwindle to three points late. Eugene would be forced to foul late down the stretch to prolong the game. The Rangers would hit enough of their free throws to hold off Eugene and their comeback bid.
"That is a really big win for us, Eugene has an outstanding program and they are extremely well coaches and to beat a talented team like them says that we are getting better. All seven of my guys that were on the floor tonight did a lot of good to help us win and I this is one that I'm very proud of and they should be too. I knew that Eugene wasn't going to roll over when they were down and that they had a run in them but we showed a lot of grit to hold them off. Darrien did an outstanding job tonight of being our team leader and doing a lot of help us win. His rebounding and ball handling especially in the second half shined. He misses some free throws in the fourth but he had to play a ton of minutes tonight so he may have been a little tired but that's alright. For us as a program I hope that this win can propel us to a new level. Eugene is a power house in class three playing for district championships and to knock them off shows we are moving in the right direction. I think a better gage for us will be our next two games with Laquey and Licking. We are going to have to keep this same level of defensive intensity because Licking will be ready for us on the 11th (January). This is only the third win for me against Eugene in my career."
