Good evening everybody in Frisco League land I would like to extend holiday wishes and here is my wrap up from day one of the 12th Annual Richland Holiday Tournament
(1) Iberia 68 (8) Bourbon 49
The Iberia Rangers were able to use a huge second quarter to rout the Bourbon Warhawks 68-49 to advance to the semifinals. Bourbon came out loose and firing in the first quarter as they would take it to the Rangers outscoring them 19-15 after the first eight. Iberia would come out and play like the top seed in the second as they would put up a monstrous 27 points to storm to a 42-27 lead at the half. In the third the Warhawks would prove to be somewhat pesky hitting some three pointers and would cut Iberia's led to single digits late. Bourbon would outscore Iberia 16-13 in the frame but it was the Rangers on top 55-43. The fourth quarter was all Rangers as they would hold Bourbon to six points while putting up thirteen to win this one in convincing fashion.
"Bourbon didn't play like an eight seed tonight they hit some shots and had some confidence against us tonight. Sometimes your first game after Christmas break can be somewhat of a puzzle because your not sure which team will show up. We are going to have to do a better job guarding then we did today but it was good to get this one out of the way and get ready for Belle tomorrow." Iberia head coach Steve Scholfield

(5) Belle 43 (4)Crocker 40
Hunter Loughridge's three pointer with 2.6 seconds would lift the Belle Tigers past the Crocker Lions 43-40 in the closest game of the day. The slow grind out pace of this one was set early as both teams would be tied 10-10 after the first quarter. (Its worth mentioning that Crocker's Rich Heenan would drill a 25 foot one handed hook shot at the end of the first) In the second the Lions would out grind Belle 9-6 to take the 19-15 lead into the break. The Belle Tigers defense would take center stage in the third as they would hold Crocker to just seven points while putting up a fifteen spot to claim a 30-26 lead after three. The plot would thicken in the final eight as both teams would trade the lead back and forth before being deadlocked at 40-40. Crocker had the ball with twenty seconds left but were unable to get a shot up due to an offensive foul call when a Lion's guard tried to draw a foul. Belle would hold for the last shot and guard Hunter Loughridge was open in the right corner. His three shot would rattle home with 2.6 seconds left and a desperation heave by Crocker would be long allowing Belle to escape with this one.

In the fourth quarter the Richland Bears would hammer Newburg 26-10 win this in blow out fashion. Jake Horton would score 11 of his 13 points in the fourth.
"It was a good win for us to come out there and knock them off especially after they beat us over at the Frisco League Tournament. The key for us was to dictate the pace of the game and we were able to do that early and speed them up. We had a balanced scoring attack tonight with four in doubles and when we can get four or five into doubles we are tough. It was good to get the win but we are going to have to turn around and play them again at their place and I'm sure they will be ready then. We are going to run and gun with Eugene. We beat them twice during my time here at Richland but they beat us last year for this tournament championship." Richland Head Coach Kent Stoumbaugh
