1. The Iberia Rangers will bring the top seed into the Richland Holiday Tournament with the top seed and a 9-1 record into the fray. Iberia won the Frisco League Tournament with victories over Plato 82-36, Dixon 55-42 and 52-42 over Licking to claim their second FLT championship. Their other wins have came against Russellville 72-41, Osage 68-29, Vienna 63-50, Belle 61-27, Tuscumbia 64-34 and a 51-50 over California on the road. Their only loss came on the road to the second seeded Eugene Eagles 58-69. Iberia will be led by Junior stand out guard Darrien Dickey with over 15 points per game while 6'9" Freshman Dexter Frisbie is averaging around 11 points per game. Iberia has a solid supporting line up of Isaac Minnick, Ryan Voss Dustin Bloodgood, Colby Jones, Jason Winters and Faben Juliano that have a ton of experience that will play a ton in how far the Rangers go in the tournament.
2. The class 3 peritoneal power house Eugene Eagles will bring an 8-1 record and an overall 28-3 RHT record into the 20012-13 Richland Tournament. The Eugene Eagles took their in their own home tournament with a wins over Calvary Lutheran (75-19) and Versailles (62-44) in the third place game and a loss to Blair Oaks 57-70. Eugene would rack up a 69-58 win over the top seeded and previously undefeated Iberia Rangers. Eugene's other wins would come against Crocker 69-34, Tipton 76-65, California 55-49, Hallsville 85-65 and St. Elizabeth 72-31. Eugene averages almost 70 points a game led by Tyler Kempker's 16.7 PPG, last years reigning tourney MVP Cody Shaw averages 15.3 PPG (5 APG) and Travis Kempker drops in over 9 PPG. Eugene likes to pressure and cause turnovers to run on but they also shoot 34 percent from three point range. They can do it all including getting out in transition or playing some tough physical half court defense.
3.The Newburg Wolves will bring an impressive first half record of 8-2 despite being seeded ninth in the Frisco League Tournament. Their only losses have come at the hands of Licking in the FLT (67-36) and a shootout against Vienna on the road 82-87. Their wins have come against Owensville 54-49, Stoutland 72-49, Richland 58-56, Laquey 37-34, St. Elizabeth 60-33, Stoutland 66-35 and Belle 49-31. The Wolves under Doug Ward have been able to grind things out defensively and that has been their strength this year. The Wolves will be led by freshman Ryan Ward with an 18.5 PPG average, Kaleb Robinson at 14 PPG and Dylan Sickler with 8 points per.
4. The Crocker Lions will bring a 5-5 record into the Richland Holiday Tournament including a 59-54 upset of Richland in the Frisco League Tournament. Other wins include a 73-66 win over Stoutland, 45-29 win on School of the Ozarks, Steelville 51-37 and 59-56 over the School of the Osage. Losses included in the Frisco Tournament were Licking 28-58 and Dixon 53-77.Other Crocker losses were to Eugene 34-69, 38-39 and Licking 55-65. The Crocker Lions are led b senior guard Dalton York and sophomore guard Austin Bogle.
5. The Belle Tigers will bring a 4-5 record into the Richland Holiday Tournament good for the fifth seed. Its no secret what Coach Beeman's Tigers calling card has been the last couple of games. They want to make the game into a grind and use some good physical defense to make teams play their style of play. Belle's wins have come against Bourbon (GVC Tourney) 51-36, Viburnum (GVC Tourney) 50-37, Bourbon 51-47 and Viburnum 68-31. Their losses have come to Viburnum (GVC Tourney) 39-42, New Haven 28-47, Owensville 38-44, Iberia 27-61 and Newburg 31-48. They are led by 6'2 Senior Forward Andrew Bray and 5'8" Senior Guard Hunter Loughridge.
6. The host Richland Bears brings a 4-2 record and the sixth seed into their own tournament but they will look to some good scoring distribution for a strong showing. Richland's wins include an exciting 100-83 win over the School of the Osage, Laquey 74-54, Stoutland 61-54, St. Elizabeth 64-53. Both their losses came in the Frisco League Tournament to Crocker 54-59 and to Newburg 56-58. Richland brings four player in double as Cody Hall leads the way with 22 PPG , Seth Myers 14.3 PPG, Jake Horton averaging 13 per game and Steven Domingue averaging 11 points. Richland is dangerous as they have four in double figures and with their athletic front line they can protect the paint and rebound the ball well.
7. The Laquey Hornets bring a 2-9 record into the Richland Tournament and will look to bring home some hardware since winning it all in 2009-10. The Hornets two win this season have come against Stoutland (FLT) 72-59 and Climax Springs 69-55. Losses have come to Dixon (FLT) 69-87, Newburg (FLT) 34-37, Conway 61-65, Hartville 41-91, Vienna 49-74, Cuba 73-84, Licking 41-74, Richland 54-74 and Dixon 50-70. Laquey has the ability to shoot the ball well at times and when they are able to get shots to fall they could make some noise. They will be led by Junior Gunner Millar, who was an all RHT selection. Other noteworthy players are Bo Brothers, Brendan Bowling, Ian Mathies and Austin Mann.
