Good evening everybody sorry for the delay in getting this one up work, Community Night and the Linn-California trip haven't left me much time to get results up. Here is my wrap up from the Laquey-Waynesville Girls game held at the Route 66 Shootout at Waynesville High.
Laquey vs Waynesville
The Laquey Lady Hornets were unable to over come the home cooking as they fell short 56-53 in their Hosiers type upset of the Waynesville Lady Tigers. In the first period Laquey would use some full court pressure to keep the Lady Tigers off balance and were able to carve out a 10-9 lead after one period of play. In the second eight minutes of play the Lady Hornets would see post player Danielle Graves forced to the bench with foul troubles and Waynesville would capitalize. The Lady Tigers would attack the paint and pound out a 14-10 period to take a 23-20 advantage into the locker rooms. In the third period this one would see Waynesville open up as much as a nine point lead but a Maura Skidmore three pointer following a Laquey timeout would kick start the Lady Hornets. They would outscore Waynesville 17-16 including a two minute stretch without Skidmore due to foul problems. It was Waynesville 39 Laquey 37 heading to the final period. In the final eight it would see everything including some very very bizarre and questionable (In my opinion) events before ending. Both team would trade the lead back and forth and with 42 seconds left Laquey would find themselves up three points coming off a Waynesville timeout while play was going on the buzzer began to sound. The refs insisted the play continue even though it had obviously affected both teams. Well Waynesville would get a basket then the refs would blow it dead to check with the table. My question is why blow it dead then and not earlier? If you let them play on that is fine (these things do happen) but why blow play dead then after the basket it was directly in Waynesville's favor (who would set up their press) to do that and a direct disadvantage to Laquey. The ball would be blatantly tipped by a Waynesville player and when the Laquey guard began dribbling again a phantom double dribble was called. Waynesville's Chelsey Howser would drill a fifteen foot jumper from the wing to give Waynesville the lead for good. It was a solid come back by the Lady Tigers take nothing away from them and I'll leave it at that.
"I think we played well and we definitely had our chances to pull this one out but our performance tonight was solid. This is the reason we got this game on the schedule because i thought it would make us better come district time. We came out played well and responded when we ran into adversity in the form of foul trouble. This was as hostile an environment you will see in high score but we kept our poise. I was very happy with the effort tonight and with how we competed. " Laquey Head Coach Wesley Shaw
